Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay born August 24, 72 at Long Beach in CA. DuVernay was introduced to art from the aunt Denise. Her aunt was a nurse who stayed overnight so that she could have the chance to learn about art theatre or literature. The aunt introduced DuVernay the 1961 film West Side Story and DuVernay became enthralled by the film. DuVernay was taught by her mother that the art form could be utilized to engage people. Her mother was also a the social sensitivity and taught DuVernay how to communicate via art. DuVernay was raised in Compton with her parents but spent the summers with Lowndes County Alabama. This is where DuVernay's father's family has been for generations. DuVernay's father recalled watching the historic civil rights march over the Edmund Pettus Bridge in the neighboring town of Selma Alabama. DuVernay was influenced by her summers in Selma to later direct the documentary of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In 1990 DuVernay graduated from Saint Joseph High School in Lakewood California. She attended University of California Los Angeles for a degree in English as well as African American Studies. DuVernay was in college when she became interested in production for television journalism. DuVernay was an intern at CBS News at the time of the O.J. Simpson's trial. DuVernay remembers being asked look over the rubbish inside the house of a member of jury. Her work left her dissatisfied by journalism and she decided to shift her focus towards the publicity industry. DuVernay was immediately hired after graduating from college as an intern at the studio that was small. In 1999, she founded her own business that specialized in public relations, The DuVernay Agency. The company launched a number of lifestyle and promotion networks which include Urban Beauty Collective and Urban Eye.
